Document security covers a few different measures that are designed to protect access and discourage improper use of your PDFs or other types of documents. Even when working from home, you have the same responsibility for document security as you would in the office. PDF Reader provides the following 3 security measures that you can use when working from home:
Watermark Your PDFs
Organizations usually watermark documents with identifying information (e.g. company and username) to prevent individuals from leaking documents and to help identify the source of the copy:
- Select and open the PDF document
- Tap the “Kdan Cloud” button and choose “Add Watermark” from the service menu
- Tap either “Text” or “Image” to insert a watermark into the PDF
- Move the watermark to the desired position
- You can customize the watermark by tapping “Settings” (See the detailed tutorials here)
(Note: Different watermarks can be added to a single file, and every page can have multiple watermarks)
Encrypt Your PDFs
If the document is secured with a password, only the intended recipient in possession of the correct password will be able to open it:
- Go to the file list and tap the “Edit” button in the top right corner
- Select the target file and tap the “More” button
- Then tap “Encrypt” and enter a new password to secure the PDF (See the detailed tutorials here)
Redact Sensitive Information
Before sharing a PDF, review and conceal any sensitive information using the following methods:
Using the Highlighter
- Press and hold the highlighter tool, then change the color to black with 100% opacity.
- Drag the highlighter over the text you wish to hide, then save the PDF as a flattened copy.
- Open the flattened PDF and tap the “More” button in the top right corner.
- Select “Converter,” choose “PNG” as the output format, and tap “Start.” The converted file will be saved in the “Converted” folder. (See the detailed tutorials here)
Note: This is not a redaction tool, so the hidden content can still be found while using text search.
Using the Shape Tool
- Tap the shape tool, choose “Rectangle,” fill it with black (or white), and set the opacity to 100%.
- Place the rectangle over the content you want to hide, then save the PDF as a flattened copy.
- Open the flattened PDF and tap the “More” button in the top right corner.
- Select “Converter,” choose “PNG” as the output format, and tap “Start.” The converted file will be saved in the “Converted” folder. (See the detailed tutorials here)
