Animation is made up of a sequence of images that generate visual illusion. In Animation Desk, a sequence simply refers to an animation clip you created in the app. You can stream multiple sequences in an animatic storyboard. 

However, a longer animation is composed of multiple shots. Shots that are under the same theme are grouped together as a “scene”. A group of related scenes is called a “sequence”.
