Pattern brush (or screentones) is often used in drawing comics. It’s an ideal tool for creating shadow and texture. 

Select the pattern brush, draw an area, and the area will be filled with the pattern that you selected. 

You can mix different patterns or use the pattern brush with the shape and rulers.
